Church Family News – May

Keeping you up to date…

The question on everyone’s minds is ‘when will we meet together in the Tab?’

Inside the Tab
Inside the Tab

We anticipate re-opening the Tab in the final week of July. Although the government is likely to bring the time frame forward for gatherings of 50 – 100 we are not rushing, particularly as it is the middle of winter.

Once we return, we will only be able to have 50 people, plus a few leading the service, in the Tab at one time. It will be great to worship as a church family but may feel a little strange scattered across the building in designated areas with only families allowed to sit together. The capacity of the back hall is possibly no more than 20, so we will have to re-think how we do morning tea.

Prayer Point: Pray for wisdom and discernment for the leaders as decisions are made in plotting the course ahead, and that what is done will not only serve our church family well, but also the city in which we live.

STOP PRESS: News at hand is that we are now allowed 40 people! Stay tuned for more updates.

Margaret Elinor Hart, born 7 April 1929, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday 30 May 2020. She was a member of Hobart Baptist Church for 76 years.

The church will remember Margaret for her loving heart and the beautiful way she looked after new people to the church. A long-time member of the Pastoral Care Team, and a great cook providing biscuits, cakes and meals for church events and those in need of a helping hand. During her working life Margaret was a much valued nursing sister and nurse educator working at Calvary and Royal Hobart Hospitals.

Margaret was the much loved and loving wife of John, loving mother and mother-in-law of their four children, devoted grandmother of their ten grandchildren and devoted great-grandmother of their six great-grandchildren.

Cherished and sadly missed by all who knew her. Private cremation.

Prayer Point: Please pray for John and the family at this time of sadness and great loss for the whole family.

Christmas in Winter

Dark MoFo is not happening this year because of Covid-19, however, we are planning a festival of our own!

I don’t want to give too much away at the moment, as it may spoil the surprise. I’m sure the thought of singing Christmas carols and enjoying a hot Christmas dinner should be enough to look forward to! You can plan your guest list, and your dinner menu – won’t it be great to get together with family and friends.

And of course, Christmas Day, being encouraged by what the birth of Jesus means to us and to the world. Let us make the most of the current situation to share the good news as widely as possible.

Praise God that the earlier than expected easing of restrictions to stage two has been possible. Pray too that those who make the most of it over this long weekend, enjoy every moment sensibly and safely.

Give praise for all the positives that have come out of the isolation period caused by Covid-19. It has given many people the opportunity to appreciate what is important in their lives. God’s creation and his love for us, our own family, the church family and being connected with one another, good friends and loving, caring relationships with one another. I’m sure you can add other things to the list.

Please continue to pray for the Leadership team, for all involved with the various aspects of the Building Redevelopment and future planning. Pray for clarity and transparency in discussions and in decision making and certainty of God’s leading.

At this time more than ever it is important to continue your ongoing commitment to God’s work, in Hobart, Tasmania and beyond.

Thank you to all who have been faithfully continuing their regular giving. Your support is much appreciated.
