Summer Edition 2020-2021

YOU ARE WELCOME to join us for our 10am Services each Sunday in the Tab. The services will be in a familiar format, with most elements brought to you in-person.

The Online service continues to be available HERE >>>. These will be a little different and will feature some of the “best-of” services from the past six months.
We are working towards streaming our services – stay tuned!

Summer Sermon Series

January 3 – February 7, 2021

In the gospels both the authority and identity of Jesus are revealed in a series of statements that begin with “I am” (Greek: ego eimi). We see this clearly in the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus teaches “You have heard … but I say to you”. Here Jesus speaks as God would speak.

For Jews who knew their Bibles and heard Jesus, the meaning would have been clear. Jesus was saying, “hearing me you are hearing God speak”. In this series we will look at the “I am” statement where they appear most frequently; in John’s Gospel. There are seven in total.

2020 draws to a close!

It has been a challenging year, but the last two Sundays have been oh so encouraging: with the return of more people to worshipping in the Tab; the resumption of the Karen services; messages delivered from the lectern; two baptisms and subsequent acceptance into membership; the Empty Christmas Tree Service; and the Kids’ Church Christmas video. WOW!

The Hope of Christmas is amongst us, and the Hobart Baptist Church Family is in a good place, and ready for 2021.

The Soundy Forecourt

HALLELUJAH!! It’s a miracle!

Breaking News: As of midday, 23 December, Council has certified the Stage One Strata Plan, the Master Plan and the Disclosure Statement for the staged development scheme. Such good news.

What this means is, by the time you read this, our Strata Title Application will be at the Lands Titles Office. Shortly after Christmas, when they reopen, the titles will be ready and settlement on the units can occur.
We have been working towards this for what seems like an eternity, so PRAISE GOD.

It has been a marathon, but perseverance pays off – we have made it!
I’m sure you will join me in thanking all who have worked hard to make this happen, and I ask you to pray for peace, rest and renewal over the Christmas break for all.

Units from Carpark

A big THANK YOU to the Hobart Baptist Church Family for your support and generosity to boost the finances for the redevelopment.

By working together we almost reached our targets of: $100,000 (gifts) | $250,000 (loans).

So amazing to receive:
Gifts of $99,572 over and above the previous donations of ~$20,000
Loans of $217,500 and $35,000 in Loans received previously converted to donations.

It is a fantastic result and your generosity and sacrifice is acknowledged with deep gratitude.

Praise and Prayer for 2021

As we look forward with hope and anticipation for the opportunities to show God’s love to the community around us enfold, let us give praise:

  • For the fact that we have come through 2020
  • That we live in a beautiful state, in a great country – things may not be perfect, but we have so much to be grateful for
  • That the building, despite delays and rising costs, is nearly complete and
  • That the church community has supported each other through it all.

Please pray for:

  • Rest and renewal for those who have carried heavy burdens in 2020
  • The leadership team, as plans for the year get underway in January
  • A quick settlement on the units and completion of our facilities
  • The provision of the necessary finances
  • The establishment of the coffee shop and ministry opportunities through using our new facilities
  • Growth of the church fellowship in faith and number, and
  • The defeat of Covid-19 worldwide.

Greetings from Jan and Jit Yawan.

Please pray for Jan’s health. She is grateful that an early diagnosis indicating her cancer of nine years ago has returned, has enabled treatment to begin and will not stop them returning to Thailand when it is safe to do so.

Looking ahead: Aboriginal Sunday – 24 January 2021

Aboriginal Reconciliation

Tas Baptists Social Justice Taskforce has prepared another Monthly Byte for you to read over the Summer. The theme is Aboriginal Reconciliation and it is a good reminder to us of what Reconciliation is about.

I encourage you to take the time over the holidays to READ MORE >>> about this and to share with others.

Thank you to all who have faithfully continued with regular giving during the current economic climate. Many are now using EFT, with quite a few who have made the switch since we had to close our doors. Your ongoing support is much appreciated.

There is an offering box available for your use as you leave the Sanctuary. (A change to the way we do things as a result of COVID-19).
