Special Members’ Meeting – January 30, 2022
A special church Members’ meeting will be held following the 10am service on Sunday 30 January to consider a recommendation from the Diaconate regarding the appointment of a part time Associate Pastor.
The November Church meeting endorsed the action of the Diaconate to advertise a part time Associate Pastors position at HBC, with the aim of commencing in February 2022. The recommendation comes as a result of that process.
The recommendation from the Diaconate is “to Extend a call to Matthew Henderson as part time (2 days per week) Associate Pastor at Hobart Baptist Church, commencing on 7 February”. The call is to be for a period of 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension. There will be a review after 6 months, and annually thereafter.
Matthew Henderson grew up in a strong Christian family in the Brethren church, and has always known God. Matthew married Kylie in 2006, they have 2 sons and are members at Citywide Lenah Valley where they have been attending since 2015.
Matt’s whole life has been shaped by his relationship with Jesus Christ and he has a heart for the city of Hobart. Matt has just competed a Bachelor of Ministry at Alphacrucis College and whilst he has been studying, Matt has also been serving at Citywide in a number of roles: in the technology team, teaching team, as an elder since 2018 and as acting Chair of Elders and Youth group coordinator since July 2021.
Matt feels strongly led to serve the Lord, and to serve a church community. He has strengths in Biblical discernment and understanding, team-building, technology, media and in relating to young people. Matt feels passionately that the role of the Church in this time is to build a community of Christ followers who love and serve to city around them, and to offer a place of loving and genuine grace, fellowship and support where people are able to grow in their faith and follow God’s calling in their lives.
