FRIENDSHIP GROUPS AT ESTEEM

REPEAT! 10:30-11:30am Thursday 29 February Due to popular demand Margaret Eldridge’s story-telling is to be repeated.

11.30-midday Thursday 29 February Kelvin will also share a little of his experience particularly related to employment .

Practicing English at Esteem

Kelvin is turning his attention to making the Esteem space busy! One initiative is to start groups, meeting on a weekday between 8am and 2pm around a discussion or an activity.
Please contact Kelvin if you would like to anchor a group. He can assist with advertising for you.

The first group to begin is English Conversation.

  • ANYONE IS WELCOME!
  • Pili (a Columbian young lady) is helping to set it up.
  • A 5-week trial began last Thursday 22 February.  Thursday mornings, 10am – midday.
  • There will be a topic for each day, but flexible and friendly.
  • We need volunteers at this stage – English speakers, to help facilitate.  It can be different people each week. Two people each week would be ideal.

Email Kelvin if you are interested or have ideas for other groups: kelvin@citynetworks.org.au

LUMINOUS* 2024

Luminous Festival

* Luminous is a mid-winter event hosted by Hobart Baptist Church to be held 12 to 23 June.

Luminous aims to open up conversations on important topics for the people of Hobart. This year’s theme is Sacred Tasmania.

A great crowd gathered recently to share delicious food, enjoy fellowship, and hear from the Luminous team about plans for 2024.

Stephen Baxter shared the grand Luminous vision and explained our call to this unique event.

Questions and feedback were received – there are plenty of good ideas to explore as a result.

It isn’t too late to Participate!

This is your opportunity to be part of the team! There are lots of volunteer opportunities to bring your creativity to:

  • Music and carols
  • Movie, poetry and reading nights
  • Hobart Baptist’s signature Christmas in Winter celebration
  • Art/exhibition
  • Event Set-up
  • Audio/Lighting and Video

To offer your ideas and suggestions please talk to Stephen Baxter, or email luminous@hobartbaptist.org.au

The Main Game

Sermon series from Sunday 4 February until Sunday 17 March

The Main Game - Learning to live like Jesus in Hobart; 11 Feb to 17 Mar 2024

Let’s keep Learning to live like Jesus in Hobart (one of HBC’s Values) and put plans in place to keep learning and growing.

For us today in Hobart, this is not just a Sunday thing, but a whole of life — a 7-days-a-week, 24-hours-a-day, undertaking. Every area of our lives, our family, school, work and even our alone time, is impacted by our commitment to be disciples of Jesus.

CHURCH KITCHEN UPGRADE

THANK YOU! We have now reached target! Woohoo!

A huge thank you to Hannah Smith for all her baking, and Warren Robertson for his sausage sizzles. And thanks to the many who contributed significantly with donations, both large and small.

Esteem coffee

We are looking forward to upgrading the church kitchen to commercial standard. This will enable us to fully utilise our facilities, not only for our own church family, but also to better serve the community.

Kelvin’s vision is to make the church kitchen available to individuals or groups to produce food for distribution or for sale, either as one-off or as semi-regular events.

TITHES, GIFTS AND OFFERINGS

‘Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’
2 Corinthians 9:7

We thank all who give faithfully on a regular basis, as without this support we would not be able to operate. Your offerings support our budget: and through that it enables the church to continue to be an important part of the North Hobart landscape and the place from where we can prophetically serve the City of Hobart.

It is where we can know the benefit of worshipping with others, where we hear the stories of Jesus and how they apply to us, where we are encouraged in our journey with Jesus, from where we can share God’s love with others and help them to know and trust in God themselves. Our influence can also be far reaching – there is no limit to God’s love through our deeds and actions. Thank you for your generosity.

EFT is a great way to ensure regular giving and as well there are offering boxes available for use as you leave the Sanctuary.
