PEOPLE OF PEACE

Sermon series from Sunday 14 April until 12 May.

People of Peace Sermon series at Hobart Baptist church

We live in a world that seems full of conflict and unrest, yet Jesus promises that those who work to build peace will be blessed (Matthew 5:9).
It is often thought that peacekeeping and peace-making are the same thing, but they are not. Peace is not the absence of conflict. Instead, peace is working through conflict together.

How do we find that peace and how do we share it with the world around us? How do we live well in a troubled world and a conflicted culture? We do it by being people of peace.

HBC Working Bee, 11 May 9am -12pm; 2024

CHURCH WORKING BEE

Coming up in just two weeks, the next Church Working Bee will be a great morning to gather, work hard together, and do a big clean-up!

WHEN: 9am-12pm, Saturday 11 May 2024 – come when you can, for as long as you can make it!
WHO: Anyone who is part of HBC and Sanctuaries, children too.
JOBS: Washing windows, Dusting, Deep-clean bathrooms, Steam-cleam carpets – and a whole lot more.

A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER

Average weekly offerings in:
January $1,969 pw
February $1,802 pw
March $1,515 pw
And for the 3 months:  $1,761 pw compared to the budget figure of $2,223 pw.

The figures for the 9 months ended 31 March are currently being reviewed by the Finance Committee. There is not a lot of fat in the budget, but with offerings continuing to track below the target figure, it may be necessary to reduce some expenditure.

Ben Wagner
Treasurer, Hobart Baptist Church

Every Sunday, there will be a red tub available near the kitchen entrance for your donations – both gifts and cash donations are welcome!

It’s April and we are collecting items for personal hygiene. No liquids please! (The possiblity of leakage, ruining many boxes, is too high.)

  • Soap
  • Face washer
  • Toothbrush
  • Hairbrush
  • Comb
  • Scrunchies, hair clips

In October there will be a shoebox packing day held in the Soundy Lounge. And what a fun day that will be! Or, if you prefer, why not take a box or two home and pack them yourself?

Please see Kylie Henderson or Celia Munro for more info.

TITHES, GIFTS AND OFFERINGS

‘Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’
2 Corinthians 9:7

We thank all who give faithfully on a regular basis, as without this support we would not be able to operate. Your offerings support our budget: and through that it enables the church to continue to be an important part of the North Hobart landscape and the place from where we can prophetically serve the City of Hobart.

It is where we can know the benefit of worshipping with others, where we hear the stories of Jesus and how they apply to us, where we are encouraged in our journey with Jesus, from where we can share God’s love with others and help them to know and trust in God themselves. Our influence can also be far reaching – there is no limit to God’s love through our deeds and actions. Thank you for your generosity.

EFT is a great way to ensure regular giving and as well there are offering boxes available for use as you leave the Sanctuary.

You can give online here
