Next Steps – Hobart Baptist Church

Hobart Baptist Church has been a community occupying a liminal space for a period of time. The renovation of the building appears to have provided us with a marker for the ‘end’ of a season in the life of this church community, however a clear ‘new thing’ has not yet fully emerged.

Times of change and transition can often be difficult and daunting; however, it is in these times where God is often doing formational work both in the lives of individuals and communities.

Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young,
that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft.
-Deuteronomy 32:11

In 2024 we will see generational change at Hobart Baptist Church in terms of our governance. We are presented with exciting opportunities by this cultural moment we find ourselves in and by what has already started. We are not at the beginning of the journey, instead we are already on our way.

It seems that in our change and transition God may well be breaking up our ‘nest’ of familiarity and sense of safety in continuity at Hobart Baptist Church. If so, He is doing this because He wants us to learn how to fly.
